Response to Stirling engines used to generate electricity from wood burning stoves

<t>Yes but it is still only 800 watts. Surely modern technology can do <br/> better than that. You would think the manufacturers would have worked <br/> a little harder to match the output to an average home's needs or is <br/> the Stirling Engine not capable of producing the 10kW or so to power a <...

Response to Stirling engines used to generate electricity from wood burning stoves

<t>The Whispergen produces around 850 watts of electricity but it's a bit<br/> disappointing really. Firstly it will only use gas so there is no possibility<br/> of using renewable biomass such as wood. Secondly, 850 watts isn't much of a<br/> return on something the size of a dish washer and 2-3K i...

Response to LTD Pancake question

If the cold side is getting so hot, is it because of heat conduction through the metal that makes the cylinder. Try putting in a ceramic heat break between the hot and cold ends. Might drastically improve efficiency.

Response to 200W Stirling

<r>Hi Mike,<br/> <br/> My email address is <EMAIL email="glidingdoc@yahoo.com">glidingdoc@yahoo.com</EMAIL>. Please don't forget me as I want to build, or rather I would like you to build, two engines. The first would be to power two generators, one to produce 90 volts and a few milliamps of current...

Response to 200W Stirling

Dear Mike,

I noted your comments that you have a machine shop and the skills to build your own Stirling Engine. Would you be intersted in some sort of commission? (ie I provide the drawings and some cash and you build the thing????)

Has anyone thought of "stirring" the air?

<t>I'm still trying to envisage this, so forgive me for being a bit <br/> vague. It struck me that the reciprocating displacement cylinder <br/> must consume quite a bit of energy to shift air between the top and <br/> bottom of the cylinder. Would it not be possible to rotate the air <br/> and appl...
