Response to low temp Stirling help

<t>Help has been a little time getting here but from what you have described, I would say your displacer should be thicker. The type of LTD gamma you have made usually has a displacer that is 50% of the thickness of the displacer chamber. I'm not sure what you mean by "offset" but the displacer shou...

Response to anyone got any graphite?

I've used this site http://www.airpot.com for piston cylinder sets. Price is good and the quality is very high. If they have the size your looking for anyway. I would imagine they ship to UK.

Response to LTD piston/displacer/crankshaft questions

<t>Bud,<br/> <br/> I have yet to find any exact formula (one that I understand well any way)for an LTD regarding the size difference between the displacer area and power piston. If I was building with a 15mm power piston I would try for about a 15mm stroke and I would use a 6 inch (about 150mm) disp...

Response to older Stirling engine model

<r>I believe you can run it on rubbing alcohol too but the flame may not be as hot. It would probably perform best on denatured or Methylated spirits. I have an engine like you describe and I usually use one of those small butane torches to run it but it mostly just sits on a shelf as a display. It'...

Response to LTD won't run

<r>I've found a good clue that the flywheel is too light is that the engine speed (when it's slow) surges considerably, nearly stopping etc. You can always drill a ring of holes at the outter rim and add short nuts and bolts if you have clearance in the connecting rod linkage to pass by them.<br/> <...

Response to LTD won't run

<t>It sounds like your stroke is fine, I have used a 2K160 Airpot cylinder set with about that stroke and about that much displacement chamber size. I used skateboard bearings for the crank but I removed the cage inside and removed all but three balls from each ot the bearings (I used two)I run them...

Response to LTD piston/displacer/crankshaft questions

<t>It doen't matter if they have the same stoke only that the displacer moves it's full travel (without touching of course) and that the power piston reaches the bottom end of it's stroke to keep the dead air space low. You can vary it to "tune" your engine so making it adjustable can be useful. I t...

Response to LTD won't run

<t>Try holding your piston down long enough to bleed out some of the pressure as you run your hot test. It will likely go in and out then. It already sounds like you have a working cycle and your engine may have too much friction to run on it's own. If you have a way to open your system and give it ...

Response to What is slowest speed for a LTD Stirling Engine???

<t>I came accross a web site (lost the link) that had a water wheel Stirling that did something like one RPM. It was made up of bulk freon tanks out on spokes and a plumbing system that would transfer the freon to the tanks on one side of the wheel making gravity do the work. This is a crude discrip...
