Response to Stirling cooling cycle for cars air conditioning
This is a good question that I should add to the FAQ. This idea makes the most sense in fixed power generation where you can run the Stirling off the waste heat from some other engine. In cars, freon systems work and are cheap so the car companies aren't likely to bother.

Response to Size and weight of large Stirling engines
<t>There aren't any absolute answers to this. It depends on the design. When I did an interview with Kockums for Around the World by Stirling Engine, they said that when you took off all the submarine specific parts of their 100 kW Stirling that the engine itself was about the same size and weight a...

<t>Humm... What a novel idea. Sounds like you have a home brewing project. My guess is that if you get the beer done before the Stirling cooler then you will never get around to building the cooler! [smile].<br/> <br/> <br/> Building a Stirling cooler would be a fun project, but is beyond a simple "...

<t>You will definitely want to order a copy of Around the World by Stirling Engine. It is an excellent intro to Stirling engines and also has an over view of some fun things that are out there in the world of Stirling engines. It covers everything from Stirling powered luxury submarines, to a Stirli...

Response to "Knock" in LTD Stirling Engines
<t>You are probably running it too fast. Most MM-6's will make some noise at 150 rpm or more. Back off on the heat. You also might want to try a tiny drop of very light oil like WD-40 (a light machine oil) at the place where the connecting rod attaches to the piston.<br/> <br/> <br/> Make sure you d...

Response to Stirling Engines and Nano Technology
<r>I think that Stirling engines can probably be built with chip fabricating machinery and probably with other methods for building mechanical devices on an extremely small scale.<br/> <br/> <br/> I've sold model engines to at least one researcher at a major government lab <I><s>[I think it was Sand...

<t>I posted some general comments on how to generally trouble shoot any Stirling engine in a different thread. Perhaps we can find the author and get him to comment here on his engine.<br/> <br/> Stirling engines don't need to have a displacer piston, all they need is a mechanism, it can be anything...

How to troubleshoot any Stirling engine
<t>There are three common reasons that Stirling engines fail to run. If<br/> you have a design that you know to be good, here are the things that<br/> can keep it from running.<br/> <br/> 1. Inadequate thermal transfer. You have to keep the hot side hot<br/> enough, and the cold side cold enough for...

Cylinder Alignment Tool
Alistair Grant sent us this picture of the alignment tool that he built. We use something similar at the factory when we build ready to run engines.
