Response to The coffee cup engine
<t>I will assume that you have read the FAQ so let me comment on why the engine runs faster on "hot" than on "cold".<br/> <br/> The temperature difference between the hot side and the cold side is greater when running on hot water. Let's use degrees C for convenience. When running on steaming hot wa...

Response to Stirling Engines in Cars?
<t>I'd like to very respectfully disagree with Tom. Markets that are being well served by existing cheap technology are not likely to change to Stirling power even if they could. <br/> <br/> On the other hand, markets that demand something that a Stirling engine can do well and other engines can't d...

Response to Recovering waste heat from natural gas generators
<t>First you should have no illusions that you will save money or that this will be easy. It will be both expensive and difficult. Of course if you succeed you will feel incredibly proud of yourself and even if you don't the learning experience may be worthwhile.<br/> <br/> First I'd recommend that ...

Response to Recovering waste heat from natural gas generators
<t>You clearly are on the right track to use the heat from the engines cooling system to supplement house central heating. That much is simple cheap and easy.<br/> <br/> What you would also like to do is use the perhaps 1000 deg F. (537 deg. C) exhaust to power a Stirling engine and make more power ...

Response to Stirling engines for the third world
<t>Phil this really is a great idea, all except for the notion of selling them to the third world. The third world wants what the first world has. Saying that a product is good for someone else is another way of saying "I don't want it." <br/> <br/> But your idea of selling such a product to the Ame...

<t>Mick you are absolutely right that a hybrid is the only practical use of a Stirling engine in cars.<br/> <br/> On March 20, 2002 I delivered one of our KY-2000 Stirling engines to the Mechanical Engineering department at San Diego State University. While I was there I had the opportunity to see t...

Response to Stirling Engines in Cars?
<t>Stirling engines can be built that will vary their power output just as quickly as a car's engine but they tend to become complex when designed for that goal. You probably have already read the FAQ on this subject so let me elaborate.<br/> <br/> NASA and Ford (among others) built Stirling engines...
