Can someone suggest a source for the graphite suitable for machining
into pistons for Stirling motors. Rod should be < 1" in
diameter...I've found some industrial sources but they want to sell
it in larger quantities than I need.
Thank you,

E-Bay has a few items of "Graphite Block" curently.
A web search for machinable graphite and similar terms will turn up manufacturers and distributors. Call or email for information.
Check jerry-howell.com and send him a email asking is he can suggest sources. Search for Stirling Mecca and email inquiry.
If you didn't know, graphite machines nicely but is very dirty.
