I am researching the possibility to construct a working Stirling
engine using cardboard (0.3 mm or stronger) plus materials like
aluminium foil, plastic rings as bearings, maybe a ballon etc etc.
Heat source could be a glass or bottle with very hot water or a small
candle (which needs special protection of the cardboard of course).
Has anyone experience in such experiments?
Or is there already such a thing?
In the long run my intention is to offer a low-priced cardboard kit
to schools etc.

Your project certainly sounds challenging! I would expect that you will run into a variety of problems from heat conduction to obtaining consistant seals with cardboard and adhesives in classroom use. I think it is do-able ... but would question the success rate associated with constructioning a Stirling made from these materials. I find that the Coffee Cup engine (although more expensive) is more exciting ... and the 'test tube' and marble engine less expensive in demonstrating a heat engine.
