Two piston Stirling engine problems

Post by matlyons »

I have built an LTD engine that works well, also a one piston
displacer type designed to run on a hot flame (mini air compressor
piston and cylinder/crank set-up) and home made displacer piston and
cylinder, although it has a few leaks, it runs well at around 500-
1000 rpm.
I have had trouble with a two piston engine i have built, i have
followed many different instructions as to how to set it up.
It tries to run but never gets going. The engine is not too tight and
possibly too loose, maybe not a good enough seal between pistons and
cylinders.
? Are the two piston motors more temperamental to get running than
the one piston type with seperate displacer piston.
What should i look for to fix the engine.

Response to Two piston Stirling engine problems

Two pistons have presumably twice the problems of one. Twice the friction, and twice the leakage. Both are detrimental to engine operation. A larger/heavier flywheel may be of some help.
