Has anyone here ever seen an alpha ringbom engine before? Ever since
reading about the design in Senft's book, I've been looking for one on
the internet but never seen it.

I'm in the middle of trying to build one but have run into some snags
(lack of available time mostly).

Anyways, has anyone ever heard or seen an actual engine of this design?

There quite a few Ringbom engines on YouTube. Enter "Ringbom engine" as search term and it returns a page full of them. Be sure to open each one in a new tab or window so as to not loose the original list.

lists numerous Stirling and Hot Air Engine links.

The good thing about Ringbom's is that because of the way that air pressure moves the displacer you can get a squarer wave. On the other hand the air pressure used to make the wave square could have pushed on a piston, so it's a loss mechanism (unrestrained expansion of a gas).

Also they have to run fairly slowly because Nature won't let you have fast square waves.

So in my opinion they are fun but not the best way to make a high speed engine.
