Momentum of gases

In a 2 cylinder Stirling, the gas inside the engine runs back and
forth through between the 2 cylinders. Would it be helpful for
efficiency of breathing if you use 2 seperate lines between the
cylinders, each going only 1 direction? They would each need a 1-way
valve (flapper valve). You can still make a regenerator between the 2
lines, but I believe you would have significantly improved airflow,
due to the lack of momentum of the gas changing back and forth. So
you would have 1 line traveling from the hot cylinder to the cold
cylinder, and a seperate line bringing the gases back from the cold to
the hot side. Any thoughts?

I think it's a great idea. I've been sketching some hobby level LTD alpha designs that I think may just work. I've also been working on an alpha/gamma composite engine. It has two displacer cylinders (one hot, one cold) and a power cylinder. I like the idea of increasing efficiency with valved airways. However, in an attempt to reduce mechanical parts I have considered using a Tesla valve http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_valve in each line.
