ericsson cycle

Ok, I believe I see the major difference between an Ericsson cycle
and the Stirling cycle The later is a closed system and the prior is
open.
Wikapedia, "The piston-type Ericsson engine can potentially be the
highest efficiency heat engine arrangement ever constructed.
Admittedly this has yet to be proven in practical application" What
are the problems to be solved? Also from
Wikapedia;" The Ericsson cycle is most similar to a double action
type Stirling, displacer acts as power piston".What is this engine
called? All I can find is the free piston ,but this isnt what they
are making the comparison to.
