Linear Alternators or generators

Does anyone have any references to the design of linear alternators
or generators? These have been described as the method of obtaining
electrical output from a linear rather than a rotational movement
such as that produced by the Beale engine and Cooke-Yarborough's
Thermo-Mechanical Generator as described in C D West's book on pages
195-200. (Principles and Applications of Stirling ngines)
