I was considering modifying a v6 engine into a Stirling engine. one
side of cylinders would be hot and one side cold. Does any have any
insight on this? Is it a stupid idea? Could it work? I think i would
have to retime the pistons, but other than that it seems possible. Any
advice would be cherished.

This is not a good idea. You will waste a lot of time and effort and your engine will either run poorly or not at all. You have to make too many compromises with this approach. A lot of very talented people have tried this.


Start your engine building adventures by building an engine that is known to work. You might want to do something similar to the Merrick Lockwood's Engine


Start with something similar to what has been known to work and then expand on that. Otherwise you will waste a lot of effort.
