bottomless heat source - FYI

Post by bptdude___2569 »

This quote was cut from a New York Times article today:

"According to a 2007 geothermal report financed by the Energy
Department, advanced geothermal power could in theory produce as much
as 60,000 times the nationÂ’s annual energy usage. President Obama, in
a news conference Tuesday, cited geothermal power as part of
the “clean energy transformation” that a climate bill now before
Congress could bring about."

Notice the "60,000" number.

The most obvious means to extract the energy might seem like steam,
there are very good reasons why Stirling type engine energy
generation would have great advantages.

Here is the Stirlig trivia question of the day.

Can you guess why?

"Notice the "60,000" number." Geothermal ENERGY is abundant but since it is usually deep beneath the ground surface, extraction and utilization may expend the use of more energy than can be recovered.

When it can be used as steam to drive conventional turbine generators, as it CA it is available at minimum energy loss.

A Stirling engine driven generator utilizing steam from any source is very problematical at best.
