Hot water pools and Geezers of Iceland and Greenland

Post by woodender »

Why don't they built a large Stirling Engine above the hot springs
of Iceland? These are forever bubbling with boiling hot water. The
very cold air temperature of Iceland would make for a large
temperature differance. Wouldn,t this produce a more powerfull
engine and it would cost nothing to run? We could also use the
deserts to run Stirling engines, by using the heat out of the sand
that has heated up all day and the much colder air temperatures that
are experienced at night. I believe that for us to save our planet
we all have to diversify, such as certain countries would be
responsible for generating low cost energy, others produce food,
others technology etc etc. A large scale prototype Stirling engine
might give everyone the hope that is currently lacking.

Such a Stirling engine would cost far too much to be cost effective since there are no such engines generally available.

For large scale operations, steam generation is a mature proven technology, and in Iceland, is used directly and to produce hydrogen as a synthetic fuel.

The sun belt areas of the planet could easily produce more energy than humans could use, and geothermal an order of magnitude more than that. The problem is the politicians will not actually act to put an actual premium price, such as a tax, on fuel sources that will run out and currently stink up the planet, also causing global warming.

This is requierd to give makers of alternative systems, such as Stirling engine investors, a stable market to count on. Oil companies know this of course, they are not stupid, that is why prices go up, but come back down.

Stirling engines are the theorectical champ, but much work has to be done before they are ready to save the planet. Actually, the pieces required exist here and there, and need only to be glued together, ready for that stable market to happen.

Can you help make that happen?

Small Stirlings are a great concept, because they are much safer than steam and require less expertise to run. A 50 kilowatt solar powered Stirling that feeds a gas pump looking thing that takes electricy and makes hydrogen at a gas pump for you car { which you can buy now } would spark more interest than a large scale unit.

Cost is a matter of jump starting the industry, and watching the prices fall, since there is only conventional manufacturing costs, and no special materials that are dagerous or rare.

Sounds like a Simulas money project? :)

Currently the government is just acting retarded, by pretending they could not move electricy out of the desert because power lines would be too long, instead of thinking of making hydrogen. The US governmetn is about to create a huge mistake in starting a carbon credit trading system.

I myself am seeking support overseas, to use U.S. government public information to help a competing economy, based on a Stirling engine design. Only becuase a solution from out own nation seems hopeless, though it sits right in front of us.

IF that takes off, THEN our nation will listen.

sad, pathetic, but true.
