Stirling cooling cycle for cars air conditioning

Post by toledan »

I read some about Stirling engines and became a enthusiast. I wounder
if a Stirling cooling cycle could be feasible for cars air
conditioning powered by a small air turbine colecting air from the
outside as the car runs. Air intake for the turbine would be
controled as a function of car velocity and heating up or cooling car
interior could be done as desired using correspondent cold and hot
sides of the Stirling cycle. Is it more efective than power the cycle
directly from the car motor shaft?

This is a good question that I should add to the FAQ. This idea makes the most sense in fixed power generation where you can run the Stirling off the waste heat from some other engine. In cars, freon systems work and are cheap so the car companies aren't likely to bother.
