Diesel Conversion

Post by llegault »

I am trying to find information on using a diesel engine as a
Stirling engine. I intend to use a wood waste gasifier as a heat
source that has the capability to produce 2000 degrees and a heat
exchanger. The heated medium would cycle through the engine block
and the coolant would be fed like a fuel system. The coolant would
exhaust through the valves and then cooled to be re-introduced into
the loop.

I am not sure if I have heard the description of the idea right and
I know it is not a true Stirling engine but is the idea of using
only half of the design really feasible.

The conversion of an ICE to operate as a Stirling engine is not impossible but a project requiring a large number of varied skills.
Before embarking on such a project I would suggest you read ALL of the posts in all 4 forums and take advantaage of the other information available via the "Site Map" to get a complete understanding of the Stirling and Hot Air Engine Concepts. There are other sites on the www with additional information via search engines.
