Foster's Improved Stirling Tractor

Post by mastershaulm »

In a recent moment of thought, I came up with a plan for a small
vehicle powered by a Stirling engine. The power plant would basically
be a small stove, fired by wood, which would house the hot end of the
engine (probably a 2-cylinder). I don't know how much this thing
would weigh, but probably it would be along the lines of a small
garden tractor. I just wondered if anybody had any ideas for a simple
engine which would be easy to build and which could adequately power
this machine.

thank you.

p. s. I have heard of somebody building a Stirling powered garden
tractor, so I'm not just a random looney. There's a link to his
website posted on here.

this is just a small note, I'm the guy who posted this in the first place.

I would estimate that this vehicle would require about a two-horsepower engine. The temperature difference would probably be largish, being the difference between the outside air and the stove. This thing should be pretty close to the fire, thus giving the hot cylinder a high temp. The cold cylinder will probably be water cooled, in order to keep the efficiency up on hot days.

thanks, Arthur
