Small Stirling Engines Vs other technologies

Post by jmj5152 »

First, I would like to be able to contact Merrick Lockwood.I read on
the bulletin board you had contacted Merrick Lockwood. I am really
interested in making an efficient, low maintenance energy producing
device based on natural gas or biogas. I can fund a reasonable
project personally. My interest is in electrifying village
communities with the help of NGOs. I am involved in several such
organizations, and expensive engines do not scare people off, as long
as they are reliable, and low, low, maintenance. No doubt costs have
to be projected to move downwards in large volumes. Other
technologies I am currently exploring to run on biogas:

Microturbines + Thermoelectrics with earth, underground water as heat
sinks.

Thermoelectrics with high temperature delta.

Thermophotovoltaics.

How does a Stirling fit into this program? I saw a lot of postings
with material isuues for the thigh temperature side. Have these been
resolved?

There seems to be a British company developing a home version of a
power+heater unit in the 1KW range owned by British Gas. Anyone aware
of this company?

Please enlighten me, I am a new Stirling enthusiast.

Whisper Tech of Christchurch, New Zealand manufacturers the WhisperGen CHP (Combined Heat & Power) units with both AC and DC output.

Microgen of Reading, UK also builds somewhat similar CHP units.

Stirling Energy Systems, Inc. (SES)of Phenix,AZ manufactures several Stirling Power systems for various applications.

The climate and fuel availabilities in the area to be served would have a signifigant effect on the selection of the system to be employed.

Dr. Lockwood is currently fully occupied with other projects. Your interest will be forwarded to him for his consideration.
