Configurations

Post by joske.13 »

Hi, again I have already asked a question here but here's an other
one: What are the (dis)advantages of the diffrent configurations of
Stirling engines?
I'm a belgian student doing is final paper about Stirling engines.
I've already searched the web to know the (dis)advantages for the
different configurations of stirlingengines but when I think i've
found something it's either not relevant or to difficult to
understand with the english I know so can someone please help wih my
question.

Much has to do with what you have to work with and the purpose.

A single piston engine has less machinery overhead, which is good, because of less drag on the notorious low powered nature of most machines relative to actual heat differece.

A two piston engine will have the option of seperating the hot and cold cylinders, allowing more options for heating and cooling.

In a Stirling, there is also the matter of the displacer piston, of course, which is usually by itself a very low resistance device allowing on purpose the flow of working gas past it, but may also be combined with power piston function.
