Why not assemble a multistage heat pump thermally and mechanically
coupled to a Stirling engine and supplied with thermal energy from
bodies of water? The pumping efficiency of modern heat pumps is high
and multistaging would raise the output temperature to a high value,
thus improving the efficiency of the engine. The inlet water would be
supplied to the cold side of the engine before reaching the heat pump
input, thus further raising the system efficiency. This system would
provide stand-alone mechanical power for producing electricity. It
could be adapted to surface of submerged ocean vessels and eliminate
the need for fossil fuel sources.
