Gamma Type Solar Stirling Engine
yarmahmoudi: The following applies to ALL model Stirling engines.
1. All moving parts must be as light weight as possible.
2. The Displacer should be made of plastic foam or paper faced foam art/drawing board available. Otherwise balsa wood (model airplane).
3. Piston of graphite or aluminum machined in shape of a cup for minimum weight.
4. Must be leak tight except for a very tiny amount at the displacer gland seal or past the piston.
5. Sealing the displacer (heater?) chamber best accomplished with a small bead of silicone sealant applied all around top and bottom joints.
6. If engine will not run on heat of you hand try putting it on a large cup of hot water/coffee.
